On January 30, 2026, Institut nordique du Québec invites you to participate in an online training and awareness workshop entitled Myths and Prejudices Against Indigenous Peoples. This activity will be conducted in French.
Description
An interactive workshop to deconstruct stereotypes and better understand Indigenous realities.
Through open discussions, historical and cultural facts, and participatory activities, participants learn to recognize their biases and adopt more respectful and inclusive attitudes.
A section devoted to the Inuit completes the workshop: we will discuss what distinguishes them from First Nations peoples, including their legislative framework, their traumas, and their worldview.
Designed for the workplace, this workshop promotes constructive dialogue and offers concrete tools for overcoming preconceived notions.
The workshop will be led and facilitated by Sonia Fiset, cultural facilitator specializing in raising awareness of Indigenous issues, from Wanaskamek.
Sonia Fiset is a member of the W8banaki Nation of W8linak and founder of Wanaskamek, which means “To Meet” in the W8banaki language. For over ten years, she has been working with organizations, institutions, and educational communities to raise awareness of Indigenous realities. Her human and structured approach promotes a better understanding of the historical and contemporary realities of First Peoples, while responding to the concrete needs of professional communities. Through Wanaskamek, she creates authentic learning spaces rooted in respect, truth, and openness, and offers concrete tools to move toward lasting and respectful understanding.
