The MOOC “Northern Quebec: Issues, Spaces, and Cultures” is back in February 2026!

Since its launch in 2017, nearly 15,000 people have taken the MOOC “Northern Quebec: Issues, Spaces, and Cultures,” a free online course that explores the realities of northern Quebec. Good news: it's coming back in February 2026!


This course offers a unique immersion in the northern territories, their cultures, and the contemporary challenges that shape them. Through a multidisciplinary approach, you will discover:

  • The geographical and environmental characteristics of northern Quebec
  • The social, economic, and cultural issues specific to these areas
  • The prospects for sustainable development and governance

An expert at the helm
The MOOC is led by Thierry Rodon, full professor in the Department of Political Science at Laval University and holder of the INQ Research Chair in Northern Sustainable Development. A specialist in Indigenous policies, he also heads the MinErAL research network, dedicated to the impacts of extractive industries on Indigenous communities.
