A must-attend event on northern issues!

Institut nordique du Québec (INQ) invites you to its annual symposium, to be held on May 12 and 13, 2025, at UQAM's Cœur des sciences. Under the theme Health - Climate - Environment, this event will bring together a dynamic community of researchers, practitioners, Indigenous leaders and Northern stakeholders to discuss future challenges and solutions.

On the program:

  • Conferences and panels on community health, climate adaptation, sustainable northern architecture, environmental justice, decolonized governance and much more.
  • My Northern Project science popularization contest: discover the research of 17 promising young scientists!
  • Scientific poster session.
  • Networking moments to stimulate cross-sector collaborations.

Conceptual framework of the event

Symposium 2025 will be structured around three main blocks, addressing four common cross-cutting issues:

Host of Institut nordique du Québec's annual symposium

Valérie Borde has been an expert in scientific communication since 1990. A renowned journalist, she has published over 1,500 reports and columns for L'actualité magazine, first as a reporter from 1998 to 2020, then as science and health bureau chief until January 2025. She is also a columnist on Radio-Canada's Moteur de recherche.

In 2018, she founded Centre Déclic, a non-profit organization supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec, which organizes face-to-face meetings between scientists and the general public using an approach that is unique in Quebec. Center Déclic offers a turnkey service to researchers and makes science accessible to the adult public outside the sphere of influence of universities, in venues such as libraries, community organizations and festivals.

Valérie has also been a lecturer in science journalism at Université Laval and a member of the Commission d'éthique en science et technologie du Québec. She is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure de chimie in Paris, and holds an advanced diploma in scientific information and communication from the Université Paris VII. She has lived in Quebec since 1993.
