Research Chairs
The three chairs overseen by INQ represent a broad range of research topics, covering renewable energy production, wildlife conservation, food security, and sustainable development of the North.
The purpose of the research chairs was to:
- Develop Top-flight expertise in fields related to development of the North
- Spur The creation of northern research partnerships at each of the founding universities
- Promote Synergy between partners around shared research needs
- Encourage Innovation, training, and knowledge development

INQ-MCGILL Northern research chair in respiratory health & health services
The Chair’s clinical and policy work in Nunavik provide insight into the challenges Nunavimmiut face when seeking medical care, as well as into the structural barriers that undermine the healthcare system’s capacity to meet patients’ needs.

The mission of the INQ Northern geothermal potential research chair is to assess the performance of geothermal systems in cold climates, to adapt technologies with northern realities, and to root green energy in northern Québec. Access to clean and affordable energy is critical for the development of communities and natural resources north of the 49th parallel.

In particular, research will focus on how resource development and other forms of environmental change impact the abundance and health of northern wildlife populations and their contribution to traditional food security.
