A Critical Call to Action on Tuberculosis in Nunavik

Professor Faiz Ahmad Khan, pulmonologist in Nunavik and Chairholder of the INQ–McGill Northern Research Chair on Optimizing Respiratory Health Services, recently published two significant opinion pieces in major Québec media outlets addressing the ongoing rise of tuberculosis cases in Nunavik.

In La Presse and Le Devoir, Prof. Khan underscores that tuberculosis remains a serious threat to Inuit health, even though effective and straightforward solutions already exist and have proven successful elsewhere. He calls attention to the lack of political action to address this public health emergency, despite repeated warnings from frontline professionals.

His commentaries highlight the urgent need for clear, sustained political commitment to protect affected communities and to ensure equitable, culturally appropriate access to healthcare in northern regions.
