Science and Innovation Director
On November 1, 2016, Institut nordique du Québec (INQ) announced the appointment of Louis Fortier to the position of science and innovation director. A professor of oceanography at Université Laval's department of biology, Louis Fortier is also the chairholder of the Canada Research Chair on the Response of Arctic Marine Ecosystems to Climate Change, project leader for the Canadian research icebreaker Amundsen, scientific director of ArcticNet, a Canadian Network of Centres of Excellence, and scientific director of the Takuvik international mixed unit.
He has contributed significantly over the years to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge about the North and the Arctic environment, earning a host of prestigious distinctions and awards in the process:
With his wealth of experience, Mr. Fortier will bring valuable expertise to INQ. He has been involved for decades in every facet of northern research, and as the science and innovation director at INQ, he has the ability to coalesce the leading-edge expertise of the many Québec researchers who have been active in the North over the past 50 years or so.
